Rene Olstead inspiration

Modern painting, abstract, Jane Robinson
Title ?????

I’ve been in the studio today and this is one of my finished paintings to take to Chicago.    While painting this I was listening to a fantastic jazz singer, Rene Olstead.  I far I can see she only has released two albums.  I NEED more.  She is fantastic.  However she is best known as an actress, often on T.V. sitcoms.

This recent work remains untitled.  Any suggestions?

Nothing but the Blame

abstract art, modern art, artist Jane Robinson, painting, original art, canvas

Another painting created while listening to Rene Olstead.  It was a rainy day and time for a full day in the studio.  My habit is to play my favorite (or recently discovered) musicians with headphones to get the full effect, have a bottle of water near by and begin to paint with no idea where it will go or what the end results will be.  This particular painting was created while listening to her album “Skylark” and this song in particular, “Nothing but the blame”.

This painting measures 36 X48″, $1,800 abstract art, modern art, artist Jane Robinson, painting, original art, canvas

Chills and Fever

Jane Robinson Abstract painting

I’ve been in the studio quite a bit. With Crate and Barrel requesting more work, more  commission work than ever, Ugallery asking for more…plus getting ready for the Chicago One of a Kind Show, December 7-10.   I will posting some of my newest work throughout the next few weeks.  This  painting is titled “Chills and Fever”  first published in 1964 and sung by Tom Jones.  A recent song titled “Chills and Fever” has been released by Samantha Fish.  A DEFINITE check it out. Spring is right around the corner (believe it or not) and although I live in snowy cold Michigan I am dreaming of spring buds, open windows and kayaking.   These two recent paintings speak “SPRING” to me.   Light, bright, fun and uplifting.

“Our love” 48X48

When someone contacted my about creating an original painting to give his wife for their wedding anniversary I was excited about the project.   This was a secret so trying to create something for their home without her input was a challenge.  I asked the husband to send along photos of their home and spot he thought about hanging it.  This gave me a good idea of their color scheme, design style and room layout.

He said he wanted a pop of color in the room and something his wife would be reminded of their love.

This was the end result.  She loved it!

Criss Cross and My Tease inspired by the mid-century modern movement

These modern abstracts were created while listening to the album “The Blues and the Abstract Truth”.   It is a piece of jazz perfection with many great jazz musicians.

You might see the influence of the early 60’s jazz scene in these paintings.  They will be shipped to the Martin Wood Showroom (interior design) in the Chicago Merchandise Mart. If you are interested in purchasing one or both of them please contact me.  Or you can see them at my booth  at the Spring One of a Kind Show in the Chicago Merchandise Mart.

Studio Inspiration – Big Joe Henderson

Painting title: Big Joe Henderson

This painting was inspired by the music of Big Joe Henderson.   His bebop jazz brings movement and joy into this creative process. He co-led the Jazz Communicators with Freddie Hubbard from 1967 to 1968…another great jazz leader.

Joe Henderson (April 24, 1937 – June 30, 2001) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. In a career spanning more than 40 years Henderson played with many of the leading American players of his day and recorded for several prominent labels, including Blue Note.
