Abstract work inspired by Steveland Hardaway. Who?

Stevie Wonder: Born Stevland Hardaway Judkins in Saginaw, Michigan, United States, to Calvin Judkins and Lula Mae Hardaway. Due to being born six weeks premature, Stevie Wonder was born with a condition called retinopathy of prematurity, which made him blind. Stevie Wonder, even with this disability, made his landmark to be a pioneer and innovator in the music industry.

Listening to Stevie Wonder while painting inspired these two works incorporating rhythm, percussion and his soulful, funky melodies.  Stevie’s life is colorful, tragic and inspirational all at the same time.  Look at these and find “Livin for the City” and “Superstition”.

Stop watching HGTV…NOW

Do you hate what HGTV has become as much as I do?   When HGTV first aired it was a “design” show.   We could watch and  get inspired to do something new and clever  to our spaces but now it has morphed into a real estate show.  All the programs are “house hunters”, “house hunters international”, “your first place”, “love it or leave it” and dozens of other shows where real estate is the feature.   Additionally ALL of the homes are BORING and so predictable.   Every home hunter wish list includes:

  • Granite countertops
  • Stainless steel appliances
  • Walk-in closets
  • Open floor plan
  • Wood floors
  • Neutral tiled bathrooms
  • Boring

Our homes and personal spaces need our personal touch.  Begin with your favorites things, play with color, placement and do the unexpected.  Turn your dining room into your bedroom or great room into your study, office or art studio.   Please don’t worry about “everything matching” … that is a recipe for boring and predictable.  Buy art that you love and mix styles.   Inspired intoxication is the goal.   Let your home speak you language.   After all who wants a HGTV home?  No one.
